We only take 2-3 new assistants a year currently. Our next open position will be Spring 2026. However we do still encourage all cosmetology students to come for a shadow day, just to take a peak!
Your year will begin with a couple of training shifts with our current assistant who will show you the ropes. Once comfortable, you’ll then take on assisting shifts with your mentor(s). The job of assisting includes; setting up stations and carts, shampooing, blowouts, toning/shadow-roots, co-coloring, removing & prepping extensions, checking out and rescheduling guests. On the mentorship side, throughout your program we’ll work on different technical, business, branding and marketing skills. You'll begin with a single opportunity shift to begin building your own clientele immediately. As the program goes on, you'll then start swapping assisting shifts for additional opportunity. At the end of the 9 months, you'll already be on the floor 3 days a week. Upon graduating we'll drop that final assisting shift and get you full time!
Hourly + tips. Tip out from your educator is based on performance and the experience you help create for our guests. During your opportunity shifts you’ll continue to make hourly, however you’ll also have the chance to earn commissions on services and on retail sold as well as keeping 100% of the gratuities you receive from guests.
You’ll begin with 1 shift a week and will build to 2-3 opportunity shifts a week by the end of the program as you transition to the floor. During these shifts you’ll focus on excellent customer service, perfecting your skills, educating your guests on proper at home care and re-booking.
Think of this program as a paid internship. You’re able to step into your new career with a mentor to guide you. We'll provide you with all the tools to build your skills, you just have to provide the drive! We’ll begin with mannequin work, move onto models, taking your own guests and working on your mentor's guests side-by-side. Once your foundational skills are set, we’ll begin to focus on different techniques, speed and efficiency. Social media, marketing and branding play HUGE roles in building your new business. We’ll spend a good amount of one-on-one time on this area to make sure we’re finding you your ideal clientele.
Because this is our specialty, you may end up learning more than you’ll ever want to know about hair extensions. This position is ideal for someone also looking to work or specialize in extensions as well. During your program, you’ll learn proper removal, washing, prepping, blowouts/styling and coloring of extensions. If you decide you want to pursue extension work, then we'll recommend the Harper Ellis Method Training & Certification.
Perfect! This position is great for both. Being fresh out of cosmetology school can be intimidating. Let’s build on what they taught you and make you a rockstar! Just moved to Nashville? Re-building a clientele can be tough when you don’t know anyone. Randi-Rae has been there and re-build quicker than she could have imagined. She'd love to guide you with tips and tricks that have helped her along the way.
Randi-Rae has been a stylist since 2007. In 2017 she moved to Nashville from Seattle completely re-building & re-branding growing into a six-figure stylist and salon owner. She's all about education and staying up-to-date and relevant on new techniques and styles. Another area she completely geeks out on is tracking numbers and growth. We set daily, weekly, monthly and annual goals to achieve the personal & professional growth. Building those around her and seeing their success is what drives her.
Ashley Dunn is the real heart beat of MELTED. She began as Randi-Rae's first assistant opening the salon suite together in 2021. She has grown into a power house of a blonding & extension artist. So who will you be working with? All of us! Your assisting shifts will be split between the mentors and may even change up each phase. All three have very different techniques and strengths. You'll be able to pull from all of them, plus the rest of the team, everything you could possibly need to be a rockstar behind the chair.
DRIVEN! We cannot stress that enough. We can give you all the tools to be a total badass, but you have to want it. Our assistants dress the part, trendy and professional with hair and make-up on point. They’re attentive and aware of their surroundings; making sure the team is good, knowing the schedule, caught up on chores, and salon is clean. Any down time is spent practicing, learning, observing or working on social media (not just scrolling).
